The Saddle Fitting Process
As SMS Master and Qualified qualified saddle fitters Ruth and Vicky follow the SMS guidelines for saddle fitting and code of conduct.
- •
Firstly we ascertain details about you and your horse, current saddle and requirements. Whether it be a new saddle or a check.
- •
We then find a suitable day and time to either come to you or you to us at our base near to Earl Shilton, Leics.
- •
We ask you to have your horse clean, dry and an available flat area (preferably undercover!) to assess them.
- •
We ask that you have suitable boots for riding, a helmet and a safe area to ride. (We do not carry out fittings on grass in the winter)
- •
We assess your horse statically, firstly looking for any obvious health problems or injuries, then their conformation.
- •
We will then take templates and discuss findings
- •
We will then look at your current saddle, check it for safety and soundness and try it on your horse
- •
If your saddle can be refitted, we will then do this and watch you ride
- •
If not, then we will try on other saddle options, discuss these and watch you ride in them
- •
From here we will either order you in the correct saddle, in the spec that you require or fit and sell you something we have in stock. We will take a deposit of 50% to order in all new saddles
- •
There can be a short wait depending on the manufacturer, anything from 0-10 weeks
- •
When your new saddle arrives we will fit it and check that everything is ok. We then contact you to have your new saddle checked after 8-12 weeks
- •
We recommend if you have had a refit of your current saddle that you have it checked again in approximately 3-6 months
- •
We are always on the end of the phone or email if you have any questions, issues or want a chat about your saddle situation!
